Monumental Possession

Favorite track: Lost in Faces.

about

THE 1996, SECOND ALBUM FROM ONE OF THE LEADING LIGHTS OF THE INFAMOUS 90s NORWEGIAN BLACK METAL SCENE, INCLUDING BONUS REHEARSAL.

Marking 20 years since its original release, Dødheimsgard’s classic second album, ‘Monumental Possession’ followed swiftly on the heels of the band’s debut ‘Kronet til Konge’ (featuring none other than Darkthrone’s Fenriz on bass), & in the process firmly established themselves as one of the leading names of the mid 90’s Norwegian black metal movement.

A further evolution of their debut, ‘Monumental Possession’ brings back the inspired black metal riffing alongside a few elements of thrash for another hellish journey. Joining Vicotnik and Aldrahn on ‘Monumental Possession’ were Alver (ex-Emperor) on bass, and Apollyon (Aura Noir, ex-Immortal) on drums.

This edition includes bonus tracks taken from a rehearsal recorded prior to the studio sessions in 1995, featuring raw incarnations of final album tracks, an alternate version of ‘Angel Death’, and an unreleased track originally intended for the ‘Monumental Possession’ album. Joining Vicotnik and Aldrahn are Alver (ex-Emperor), and Apollyon (Aura Noir, ex-Immortal).

To fans of black metal, Dødheimsgard need no introduction, being as they are one of the great purveyors of the Norwegian Black Metal creative evolution. The band was formed in 1994 by Aldrahn (Thorns, The Deathtrip) and Vicotnik (Ved Buens Ende). The early incarnation was that of a raw and at times melodic black metal band. Over time they became known as one of the premier avantgarde black metal acts, as recently cemented on the band’s mighty 2015 album, ‘A Umbra Omega’. One of the top bands and boundary-pushing visionaries of the mid-90’s Norwegian Black Metal evolution, DHG are widely hailed as masters of dark & psychotic psychedelia-tinged extremity.
