Darkthrone began life in the late 80’s as a thrash/death metal act & progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world & one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands.

In their formative years, Darkthrone released 3 demos; ‘Land Of Frost’, ‘Thulcandra’ and ‘Cromlech’, before signing to Peaceville Records in a 4-album deal (starting with the release of their debut album 'Soulside Journey', recorded at Sunlight Studios, Sweden in 1991, and featuring the line-up of Gylve Nagell (drums), Ted Skjellum (guitars/vocals), Ivar Enger (guitars) and Dag Nilsen (bass).

‘Preparing for War’ combines classic tracks from this early period of the band, from the inspiring demo and debut material, through to the legendary black metal trilogy of releases; namely ‘A Blaze in the Northern Sky’, ‘Under a Funeral Moon’, and 1994’s ‘Transilvanian Hunger’.
