THE 1988 CULT RELEASE OF INFLUENTIAL CRUST THRASH METAL FROM THE UK's AXEGRINDER

UK legends Axegrinder appeared in the first wave of classic Peaceville bands at the end of the 1980’s, & came to the label’s attention via shows in London where they were sharing the bill with some of the punk bands which original Peaceville label-boss Paul “Hammy” Halmshaw played in at the time.

‘Rise of the Serpent Men’ was recorded at Lion Studios in Leeds in 1988, & released the same year. Their strong ‘AMEBIX’-like grind sensibility appealed to punks and metallers alike, and their first and only album, ‘Rise of the Serpent Men’ also featured some artwork contributions created by none other than Jeff Walker of UK metal masters Carcass. The band also gained a strong cult following in countries such as Japan over the years.

Axegrinder has lately seen a new period of activity, with a new studio album in the pipeline, along with plans for extensive live work.

This vinyl edition of ‘Rise of the Serpent Men’ marks 30 years of Peaceville and is released as part of the early classics selection to commemorate the occasion. The album is presented with its original sleeve artwork.
